Sad announcement of former DDRC CEO

The former Chief Executive of the Diving Diseases Research Centre (now DDRC Healthcare), Karena Pring, very sadly passed away on 15 August 2018.

Karena was Chief Executive of DDRC from 2000 to 2010 and during this time oversaw some very important developments.

The first of these was to have a hyperbaric chamber presence in Wales. A mono-place chamber was installed in St Joseph’s Hospital, Newport, later moving to Spire Hospital, Cardiff so that 2 mono-place chambers could be made available for routine patients. Patients are still being treated by DDRC Healthcare in Cardiff for a variety of conditions requiring Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

She was also in post when DDRC was first recognised by the then Healthcare Commission. This is now the Care Quality Commission by whom DDRC is regularly audited.

There are many staff still in post who worked with Karena, but her legacy is appreciated by everyone who works for DDRC Healthcare as it is today.
