DDRC Healthcare employs both permanent and bank contracted staff.
To meet the needs of our 24-hour services we require a wide variety of skills and flexibility. Bank staff come from all sorts of backgrounds, for example students, nurses and firemen.
We employ doctors, nurses, chamber operators, researchers, trainers, engineers and organisational support staff. We are totally committed to maintaining high standards through ongoing training and opportunities to share skills.
DDRC Healthcare, as a charity, also benefits from the input of the volunteers who make up our Board of Trustees. We are grateful to them for the skills and commitment that they bring. If you are interested in volunteering for us as a Board Member, please get in touch to talk to us about the skills and experience that you could contribute.
We regularly have opportunities such as Student Nurse placements, short-term Junior Doctor contracts or PhD studentships (in partnership with other academic institutions). We are keen to talk with anyone who has ideas of how they could work with us. We hold hyperbaric medicine Taster Days for those who are interested in diving medicine and/or hyperbaric medicine and want to find out more about it. Keep an eye on our Events & Training Courses pages for details of these.
As a charity we have a Board of Trustees who work with us on a voluntary basis. This is an important role and we are always keen to talk people who feel they have relevant skills and experience that they would like to share with us. We are also keen to talk to any public figures who have a high profile and who would be interested in supporting our work as a patron. A key element of our work is sharing messages related to diver safety education and the uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Current Job Vacancies
Chamber Operator/ Chamber Attendant (Bank Staff)
Closing date: 15/09/2023
DDRC Healthcare is a charity providing hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, training and research, in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine and associated fields. This post is based at the Hyperbaric Medical Centre in Plymouth. We provide high quality care for patients referred for elective and emergency HBO for conditions recognised as benefiting from HBO such as decompression illness (DCI), tissue damage secondary to radiotherapy and diabetic ulcers.
This is an opportunity to do something which is both interesting and rewarding.
Post-holders will join as a ‘bank staff’ member of the Chamber Team, providing routine and emergency HBO therapy to patients on an ‘as and when’ basis, as requested by the DDRC Healthcare Chamber Supervisor. The hours available will be irregular. The Centre operates from Monday to Friday, 08.30 to 17.00, and once post-holders are suitably trained and experienced they will be expected to join our on-call rota which operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Chamber Team members operate the chambers and support people using them. Applicants might be people with an interest in healthcare, diving or from many other backgrounds.
You will be required to achieve in-date accreditation to DDRC Healthcare standards. DDRC Healthcare staff will carry out the relevant training and assessment required. Bank staff with no relevant qualifications will be offered an initial period of training, at the charity’s expense.
Following training, it is expected that the post-holders will join our on-call rota which operates outside of normal working hours, 24 hours per day.
Applicants must either have, or be willing to undertake, an HSE diving medical to ensure they are fit to ‘dive’ and carry out all the necessary duties. You must also be able to get to the Hyperbaric Medical Centre within 40 minutes, when on call.
