Referral and funding process for HBO
Referrals
Emergency Referrals
For suspected decompression Illness or arterial gas embolism immediately contact DDRC Healthcare on: 01752 209999, or the BHA helpline on: 07831 151 523 (24 hrs).
Other Referrals
We can only accept patients for elective treatment via referral from a consultant, we cannot accept self-referrals or referrals from GPs for elective HBO treatment.
Patients can be referred by emailing DDRC@nhs.net
Please include:
- Patient demographics (Name / date of birth / hospital number / address)
- Patient contact details (Address/ phone number)
- GP Practice the patient is registered with
- Details of condition/ indication for referral
- Referring consultant details (Name / hospital details / contact email)

Funding
DDRC Healthcare is commissioned by the NHS for the treatment of patients with decompression illness or arterial gas embolism only.
All elective HBO treatments are funded by our charity.
Contra-indications
Prior to treating any patients we perform a full assessment to establish suitability for HBO and to ensure patient safety in the hyperbaric chamber.
You will not be able to have HBO therapy if:
- You are currently smoking and/ or vaping.
- You have uncontrolled epilepsy/ seizures.
- You have advanced lung disease (such as COPD with trapping of air)
- You are severely claustrophobic
- You are currently being treated with certain chemotherapy medications
