Striding out for a good cause
DDRC Striders take on the challenge
When it's sometimes hard to get going in the morning and the thought of a long walk seems impossible, a team from DDRC Healthcare showed us all how to do it!
Keen walkers themselves, four of our intrepid staff challenged themselves to take on the recent 'Trailwalker' challenge raising money for the Gurkha Trust.
Branded up as DDRC Striders the challenge saw them walk 100km over the South Downs and had to be achieved within 30 hours! Many practice weekends had taken place and the team were ready and raring to go.
So let's introduce you to the DDRC Striders pictured above (l to r) Mary, steadfast and reliable back up crew. Mary is the wife of an ex patient and a keen supporter of DDRC. Many thanks go to her and Paul (not pictured) for keeping the team going in refreshments and morale.
- Tim: Training Officer and keen hill climber and cyclist
- Helen: Nurse and keen dogwalker
- Nic: Senior Administrator and keen runner
- Jim: Training Officer, keen fitness fanatic and harmonica player!
(The word 'keen' is used to describe all the team as they are all definitely keen fitness enthusiasts!)
The Finish!
The walk was long and challenging. The team was supported at each checkpoint by Gurhka's who enthusiastically cheered them along. Jim played his harmonica during the night to keep spirits high and after24 hrs, 48mins and 56 secs they crossed the finish line, well within time and raising over £1300 for the charity.
No doubt everyone had a hot bath, a good rest and had time to reflect on what they have achieved.
