Joseph Priestley Essay Prize
The British Hyperbaric Association (reg. charity number 1181089) is announcing the annual
Joseph Priestley Prize essay competition.
The essay should be 1600–2000 words with the topic including some aspect of diving or oxygen therapy. It may incorporate historical, practical, clinical facets, or reflect on matters of a social, political, commercial or technological nature. The essay is not intended to be a research proposal or primer.
Three judges: the chair of the British Hyperbaric Association, the editor of the journal Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine and head of Diving Medicine Royal Navy, Institute of Naval Medicine, Alverstoke, Hampshire, will choose the winner.
The best essay will be awarded the Joseph Priestley Essay award, with a £1000 cash prize. The essay will be published in the year end issue of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.*
Applicants: All GMC registered doctors are eligible, this includes those in training with provisional GMC registration. The essay prize may qualify for entry into a medical schools Scholarship and Special Interest Program.
Submission: Opens midnight 1 January 2023 and closes midnight 1 October 2023. All entrants will be notified of the winner on 1 November 2023.
