🍓🥂 Strawberries and Fizz!! 🥂🍓

I had 8 weeks of hyperbaric oxygen treatment at the DDRC in Plymouth this summer (2025).  During this time, I received wonderful care from the DDRC team and experienced very significant improvements in my health, which continue to this day. As a result, I wanted to do something to raise awareness and funds for the Centre.

I put a JustGiving page together and circulated the link around friends, family and, to be honest, anyone who showed the slightest interest. (Quite an achievement for me with my less than fantastic ‘tech’ skills!).

I then decided to put on my Strawberries and Fizz, girlies only event, in my garden to add to the fund-raising bonanza!

The afternoon before the event we were erecting gazebos and parasols. There were a few frayed nerves by early evening as the new gazebo came with its instructions in Chinese and some rather odd pictures, none of which was very helpful!! However, Derek (my husband), our lovely neighbours and I managed to wrangle it into submission just as it was getting dark!!

The day of the event arrived and, oh dear, it was raining on and off all morning. I kept checking the weather forecast and rearranging the garden furniture so that it was under cover! Low and behold, the weather cleared up just after lunch and remained dry, with some sunshine, in my back garden throughout the event. I emphasis ‘back garden’ as, according to my husband, it rained in our front garden for several minutes at one point!!!

The response from family, friends and neighbours was amazing! 38 people turned up in my garden on the Sunday afternoon, all bearing delicious cakes and biscuits of one sort or another. The friendliness and camaraderie between both friends and strangers were wonderful to see! There was much chatter and laughter.

A dear friend organised a raffle, donating all the prizes herself (amazing lady)! There were about 35 prizes and much hilarity as I started to lose my voice from calling out the numbers; I’m not known for my silence!!

All in all, this was a perfect afternoon for us girls; strawberries, fizz and cake!!!

Just over £2400 was raised in total for the DDRC!!

A HUGE thank you goes out from me and my family to all the staff at the DDRC alongside much gratitude for the treatment.
