Information on how a patient is referred for consideration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
For suspected Decompression Illness, Carbon Monoxide poisoning or Necrotising Soft Tissue infection please urgently contact DDRC Healthcare by phone on 01752 209999.
The NHS provide funding for the treatment of these emergencies.
In 2013 the NHS regional funding agreement for hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy in the South West underwent transition under the Specialised Services Commissioning to become a nationally commissioned service.
Historically at DDRC Healthcare we have provided HBO for conditions recognised as having reasonable levels of evidence regarding their effectiveness and continue to work towards improving the research in this area.
The list of indications we consider for HBO are those recommended by the Underwater Hyperbaric Medical Society (http://membership.uhms.org/?page=Indications) and equivalent European societies, as follows:

How can a patient be referred to DDRC Healthcare for hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy?
DDRC Healthcare can accept NHS referrals from consultants. Funding is assigned from a national budget and not individual departmental budgets.
Unfortunately, we can no longer accept elective referrals from General Practitioners.
The indications which will receive NHS funding are currently under review. If you have a patient with one of the indications listed above, that you wish to discuss for possible HBO, please get in touch to discuss or send a referral letter to our Medical Director, Dr Christine Penny.
Private referrals are also possible for certain indications. Please get in touch to discuss on +44(0)1752 209999 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
