The First Response Emergency Care (FREC) Level 3 Certificate must be refreshed every 3 years and learners must retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date in order to remain qualified. This course can also be attended by people who already work in pre-hospital and remote environments and who posses a suitable qualification that can be converted to a FREC Level 3 Certificate (see prerequisites below for details).

This Ofqual regulated pre-hospital care qualification is ideal for those who have a specific responsibility to respond to emergency situations. The qualification is approved by Qualsafe Awards (the UK’s largest Awarding Organisation for first aid qualifications) and is clinically endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh - Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC).

The First Response Emergency Care (FREC) qualification is for people who have a responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide pre-hospital care to patients requiring emergency care/treatment.

It is specifically designed for those seeking a career in the emergency services, ambulance services, the event medical sector or those who work in high risk workplaces, including the security/close protection industry.

Successful Learners will gain the knowledge, skills and competences needed to deal with a wide range of pre-hospital care emergencies, such as:

  • Adult CPR and AED
  • Airway anatomy
  • Airway management
  • Burn severity
  • Catastrophic bleeding

A Qualsafe/RCSEd recommended manual will be provided when you attend the course.

"The QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is one of the few first aid qualifications recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA)."

Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.

To attend this course as a Refresher for a FREC Level 3, learners must already hold an in-date Level 3 Certificate.

Learners must currently hold a healthcare qualification, for example CFR, FPOSI, DMT or ECA Certificate if they wish to convert their qualification to a FREC Level 3 certificate. Please contact us for more information.

There are no other formal entry requirement but to benefit from the learning we advise that learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid (First Aid certification would be advantageous but not essential).
