The 8 day DDRC HSE Offshore Medic Refresher course includes a stimulating and thorough mixture of practical scenarios and theory work. The course also includes refresher training on CPR, first aid, AED, oxygen administration, Thrombolysis and intravenous / intraosseous techniques. At this time no clinical placements are available due to Covid-19 but this course remains compliant with the HSE requirements for revalidation and covers 60 hours of training. Clinical placement will resume when available.
Topics covered are:
(a) acute medical and surgical emergencies;
(b) treatment of immersion;
(c) treatment of hypothermia and hyperthermia;
(d) management of the unconscious patient;
(e) treatment of shock, bleeding;
(f) hyperbaric environment;
(g) minor ailments;
(h) revision of practical techniques and procedures;
(i) medical services and communications;
(j) transport of patients;
(k) drugs and equipment;
(m) update on developments in occupational health, hygiene and health promotion;
(n) update on statutory requirements.
The HSE Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First-Aid) Regulations 1989 (OFAR) do not require a placement for refresher students. As such, this course has been developed to maximise theory and practical training without the placement. However, it may be possible to arrange placements individually as the situation improves. Please speak to us before booking if you require a placement.
A current, in date, HSE Offshore Medic Certificate must be held.
A copy of your current certificate should be forwarded to [email protected] upon registration (as per joining instructions).
An HSE Offshore Medic Certificate will be awarded to students completing the course, along with an HSE Offshore First Aid Certificate.
The certificates are valid for 3 years, after which time a Refresher course will be required.
