27 June 2019
The annual Armed Forces Day will be on Plymouth Hoe this Saturday 29th June 2019.
Many of our staff are ex military and bring a wealth of experience to their roles. We have nurses who served in the Royal Navy and the Army, Chamber staff who are ex Royal Naval clearance divers and Training Officers who have served as medics and Police Officers.
One of our nurses, Del, has recently seen her son join the Royal Navy as she writes with pride:
“My father is a retired RAF military policeman. My twin brother served in the Royal Signals for 12 years and in the late 80’s early 90’s I served in Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corp, as a nurse. I am very proud of the time I spent in the army. At that time, I met my husband, who was in the Royal Navy and to this day is still serving.
Military connections run quite strong in my family, but it was a complete surprise to me when one of my three sons said he wanted to join the Royal Navy.
Having one of my children join the military was a completely different feeling than being married to it or serving myself. I’ve been anxious and worried but in the short time he has been in the Royal Navy he has grown in maturity and stature and, of course, I am incredibly proud of the young man he has become.”
