Wound Care At DDRC

If you are being treated at the DDRC and require wound care you may require frequent assessment and dressing changes by our trained nurses and doctors.
All of our nurses and doctors are up to date with current dressings, infection control and wound care knowledge. Throughout the assessment and at your dressing changes the nurse/doctor will perform effective infection control procedures to minimise the risk of infection. We all have natural ‘bugs’ which live on the surface of our skin. Generally these bugs are not harmful but if you have an uncovered wound there is a risk of infection. Your wound must be covered when outside of the clinic to prevent infection and the nurse will be able to talk through how to ‘look after’ your wound at your assessment.
At your initial assessment, (which is required before you are allowed to have your first treatment) the nurse will remove any dressings and the wound will be assessed to determine the optimal wound care pathway for you (e.g. a different dressing / antibiotics / increase amount of hyperbaric treatments you receive / increase or decrease dressing changes, etc).
