DDRC Wound Care delivering specialist wound care treatments
DDRC Wound Care Ltd was established in 2011 (initially as Plymouth Wound Care Ltd) to offer specialist care to the public for a variety of wounds, but with emphasis on treating difficult to heal chronic wounds including leg ulcers.
Initially created to provide specialist wound care services to everyone in need of our services, the activities and expertise of DDRC Wound Care has attracted interest from the public, industry and the NHS, since its inception. Our patient services are used locally and regionally, with interest in our research capabilities developing nationally and internationally.
The Wound Care Service was the first of its kind in the South West of England and is located on the Plymouth Science Park adjacent to Derriford Hospital. The services it provides are separate to the hyperbaric oxygen therapy that is provided by the parent charity, DDRC Healthcare.
The team is led by (l to r) Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist, Alexandra Bishop MSc, BSc, RN who has over 15 years experience in nursing and an MSc in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair and Specialist Tissue Viability nurses Sarah Witts DipHE RN(A) and Jo Small DipHE RN(A).

Our specialisation: Chronic wounds; Difficult to heal post-operativewounds; Research; Education and training
Who do we treat? The number of patients requiring treatments for chronic and challenging wounds is continuing to rise as people are living longer and underlying conditions such as diabetes become more prevalent. DDRC Wound Care Ltd has been established as an alternative healthcare model, providing an effective choice for patients who wish to be treated outside the NHS or who would simply appreciate a second opinion.
We are able to offer patients a more personal wound care experience specialising in post-operative and long term/difficult to heal wounds.
Unfortunately in the UK, the increasing number of complex wounds dictates that NHS services cannot fully embrace developing technologies or provide the level of care required for the resolution of many chronic wounds. DDRC Wound Care has been established as a stand-alone wound care centre to provide specialist treatments that would, otherwise be unavailable in the region.
