Students must complete the RCSEd on-line learning module prior to attending the course in order to maximise their learning and understanding of diving medicine and the relationships to fitness to dive. RCSEd course content can be found here

This course is aimed at any doctor with an interest in pursuing a career in diving medicine at home or abroad as well as becoming a HSE Approved Medical Examiner of Divers (AMED). These physicians are able to conduct examinations/assessments for the Diving at Work Regulations 1997. Medical Examiners of Divers must have knowledge of different types of diving, diving work environments and diving medicine. This DMAC/EDTCmed Level 1 approved course is taught using problem based learning as well as traditional lectures and is presented by experienced diving and hyperbaric physicians who are actively involved in the management of diving medicals, fitness to dive referrals and also the management of diving accidents. The course also includes skills station scenarios and a site visit to a commercial dive site. Assessment is by a closed book exam.
Doctors who successfully pass this assessment will be eligible to study for the higher Level 2D course and can also apply to the UK Sport Diving Medical Committee in order to become a Sport Diving Medical Referee.
